The lecture is organized within the context of the course “Politics and Government in Southern Europe. A Comparative Analysis” by Associate Professor E. Teperoglou and Dr Vasiliki Bouranta.

Gülşen Doğan is a PhD candidate in Political Science and International Relations at Koç University. Her research explores populism, democracy, multilevel governance, and migration diplomacy, with a comparative focus on Türkiye, Hungary, and Brazil. She is currently writing her doctoral dissertation on how Türkiye and Hungary use migration diplomacy in their relations with the European Union to legitimize and consolidate right-wing populist rule. As part of the Horizon Europe Twinning project BROAD-ER, she has worked with research teams at MiReKoc, Pompeu Fabra University, and the University of Amsterdam on the links between migration and urban studies. She holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations and Sociology from Boğaziçi University and an MA in International Relations from Koç University. Alongside her academic work, she has contributed to policy-oriented research at institutions including the Middle East Institute and the Istanbul Political Research Institute.
