The European Studies Double Degree Master Program (ESIS) is pleased to announce two academic lectures organized within the course “Politics and Government in Southern Europe: A Comparative Analysis.” The lectures will explore key political, economic, and social developments shaping Southern Europe through interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives.
The first lecture, titled “Southern Europe in the Wake of the Global Financial Crisis: The Case of Greece,” will be delivered by Professor Dimitrios Giakoulas on 12 May 2026 at 15:00 in the NOPE Building, Room 212, with the option to attend online via Zoom. The lecture will examine the impact of the global financial crisis on Greece and its broader implications for governance, political transformation, and economic resilience in Southern Europe.
The second lecture, “Migration – A Comparative Perspective in Southern Europe,” will take place on Friday, 15 May 2026 at 12:00 via Zoom and will be presented by Professor Ioannis Papageorgiou. The discussion will focus on migration dynamics, policy responses, and the social and political challenges associated with migration across Southern European countries.
Through these lectures, participants will have the opportunity to engage with contemporary issues that continue to influence the political landscape of Southern Europe and to deepen their understanding of regional developments from a comparative analytical perspective.
